Kouré Wild Giraffes 1 Day Visit

Leave from Niamey after a swift pickup and departure from your hotel for the road south in a sturdy SUV with bottled water. After an hour to and hour and a half you will reach the entrance gate to Kouré National Park, to pick up your regional expert from the local community and track the herds of giraffes that wander the park. Once dwindling to a population of only 48l, the park now hosts over 600 of the unique large and gentle beasts. Stop the car along the way to approach to within 5 meters and take photographs. Giraffes are among the only animals in Niger which pose no danger to humans at close range.

“I was surprised to find motorbikes and even bakkies on top of the mountain. Because I delayed the expedition, a wise decision was taken to use a bakkie. After a bumpy 3 hour drive and an hour's scrambling to the top - I hauled out the South African flag. Everyone was ecstatic and ten hours after leaving our camp, we were back - all smiles. The donkeys would not have made it and neither would I on my own so all was well in Africa. In Agadez I was welcomed back by the Sultan who gave me so many gifts. This was an amazing trip. The Tourag people are so friendly. They have a great sense of humour and even the flies are polite. I am truly blessed to be able to live my dream.”
